What Is Web Traffic Growth?

The growth in website traffic is an important marketing metric that measures the increase or decrease of visitors to your site. This can either be monthly, or yearly, and it depends on how you want to look at things!

Traffic growth can be organic, which means that people find the site through search engines or social media, or it can be paid, which means that people are clicking on ads or promoted links. Many factors contribute to web traffic growth, including the quality of the content, the user experience, and the marketing efforts. By understanding these factors and implementing strategies to improve them, website owners can increase their traffic and grow their business.

You can quickly and significantly increase your web traffic by increasing your website’s visibility and making it easy for potential customers to find your products or services. And as your web traffic grows, so will your sales and leads.

4 Causes Of Low Web Traffic Growth

Here are the four most common causes of low web traffic growth:

Lack Of Consistent Content Updates

One of the biggest reasons why your website traffic growth may have plateaued is that you’re not regularly updating your content. In order to maintain a consistent stream of website traffic, it’s important to keep your content fresh and relevant. If your website hasn’t been updated in months, or even years, chances are that people have stopped visiting because they don’t find anything new or interesting.

Poor Quality Content

Another reason why your website traffic growth may have stagnated is that the quality of your content has decreased over time. If you used to regularly post well-written, informative articles but have since switched to shorter, less substantial pieces, it’s likely that your traffic will reflect this change.

Lack Of Social Media Engagement

If you’re not actively promoting your website and its content on social media, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to increase your website traffic. These days, social media is one of the most powerful tools for driving traffic to a website. If you’re not taking advantage of this, you’re likely to see a significant decrease in your website traffic growth.

Not Optimized For Search Engines

If your website isn’t optimized for search engines, your website traffic growth will likely be slow. In order to ensure that your website is visible to as many people as possible, it’s important to make sure that it’s optimized for search engines. This means including relevant keywords in your website content and titles, as well as making sure your website is easy to navigate.

How To Calculate Web Traffic Rate?

There are many ways to monitor web traffic. Some web hosts offer tools to their clients that estimate how much traffic a site gets and breakdowns of where the traffic came from, such as search engine referrals or social media sites. However, these days most people use more sophisticated services that delve deeper into the makeup of web traffic.

Yearly Growth Rate:

[ (#) sessions from current year – (#) sessions from previous year ] / # session from previous year X 100 = (%) Yearly Growth Rate

Monthly Growth Rate:

[ (#) sessions from current month – (#) sessions from previous month ] / # session from previous month X 100 = (%) Monthly Growth Rate

Mistakes Marketers Make While Measuring The Web Traffic Growth

Not tracking the right metrics

The first mistake that marketers make while measuring their traffic growth is not tracking the right metrics. There are a lot of metrics that can be tracked, but not all of them are equally important. Marketers should focus on metrics that are directly related to their business goals.

Not setting up goals

Another mistake is not setting up any goals. Without goals, it’s impossible to measure progress. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.

Not using data analysis tools

The third mistake is not using data analysis tools. There are many great tools available that can help marketers track their traffic growth and analyze the data. Marketers who don’t use these tools are missing out on a lot of valuable information.

Not segmenting traffic

Another mistake is not segmenting traffic. Segmenting traffic allows marketers to see which sources are generating the most leads or sales. It also helps them identify which visitors are the most valuable and which ones are just wasting their time.

Not monitoring conversions

The fifth mistake is not monitoring conversions. Conversions are the most important metric for any business, yet many marketers don’t track them. Monitoring conversions allows businesses to see which marketing activities are generating the most leads and sales.

  1. Increasing traffic is just as important as converting them to customers. For the reason that if there are no visitors then, it is close to no customers but I guess it’s not always the case. On the other hand, website traffic can also be a key performance indicator. Anyway, thank you for sharing this article. It is definitely helpful and informative.

Louise – You’re right, of course.
1 visit and 1 customer that pays is better than 1000 visitors that bounce and don’t pay a cent from one pov. But maybe you have found a pain point and aren’t explaining it, so that 1k unconverted visits shows you have a large opportunity you don’t understand yet. There are a lot of details to pay attention to.
If you’re a new startup then traffic is where you start at top of funnel, but you need to quickly start caring about conversion.
